Police Begin Victim Support Program

Date Posted: 2000-10-06

Okinawa Prefecture Police began a crime victim support program from Oct. 1. The new program will assign a specific support person to each crime victim, and rely extensively on civilian volunteers to counsel and advise. The program is expected to be helpful to victims of violent crimes and the kin of fatal traffic accidents.

Volunteer groups have previously provided similar services, but this is the first time that the police are officially sanctioning and providing funds for such activity.
