Korinza Mall to Wholly Reopen Friday

Date Posted: 2001-04-28

Korinza Mall in Okinawa City will reopen Friday, after renovations on the second and third floor areas are complete.

The computer and software retailer “Computown” opened shop last month on the mall’s first floor, and the mall has been attracting customers since then. Now other computer related firms have rented space on the second floor and an Internet café type shop is scheduled to open in June. The mall’s managers believe that its new stronger image as the “House of Information” will help it attract enough customers and get on its feet again.

In addition to computer related shops and goods, shops selling apparel and shoes will be open on the second floor. There will still be only four restaurants and coffee shops on the third floor, but plans are in the works to create a “Food Stall Village” consisting of 25 different vendors selling various kinds of local, ethnic, Chinese and Korean dishes. Mall officials are busy trying to attract tenants by offering low rent prices. Officials say that the mall’s finances can be stabilized when 60 percent of the space is rented. They still have a bit to go as the ration will be at 50 percent at the time of the renewal opening.
