New International High School Planned

Date Posted: 2000-09-29

Okinawa Prefecture Board of Education has unveiled plans to create a second International High School. The plans call for the new school to have mostly foreign teachers. The school will also accept foreign students including U.S. military dependents. The planners hope that accepting foreign students will foster future international friendships. They envision Okinawa International High School will become one of the hubs of international activity in the Far East.

The plans call for the construction of the new campus to begin in 2002. The curriculum of the school would include foreign languages including Korean, various Chinese languages and English, all taught by native teachers. The curricula would also weigh heavily on information technology on one the hand and traditional Okinawan culture courses on the other.
