Naha Harii Attracts Thousands

Naha Harii, or Dragon Boat Races, will take place Sunday at the end of the Japanese holiday season called Golden Week.

Many events and festivals are planned for the Golden Week. One of the highlights of the week is known as Naha Harii, or the Dragon Boat Races. The races will be held at Aja Port in Naha on Sunday, May 5 throughout the day, at the end of a three-day festival that takes place Friday through Sunday.

Throughout its three days the festival will feature live concerts, traditional Okinawan entertainment, and lots of food and drink booths. Each day will end with a laser and fireworks show.

The Dragon Boat Races will be held starting at 11 a.m. with the finals commencing at 3:30 p.m.

Aja Port is located past Camp Kinser. Travel to the second traffic light under the bridge and turn right. Continue straight until you see a container terminal, turn left into the container terminal where you can find free parking. From the terminal you will see the festival grounds near Aja Bridge.

May 3 - Fireworks, 20:40 - 21:00
May 4 - Kachimba1551 concert, 19:00 - 20:20, Fireworks 20:40 - 21:00
May 5 - Harii race in two categories, general and strong. Qualification races for the general category start at 10:30. Women’s foreign team, Torii Knights will start at 12:00. Teams Niraikanai, Shogun, and Devil Dogs will start at 12:15. Qualification rounds for the ‘strong’ category start at 14:15 with men’s foreign teams competing each other first. The names and numbers of men’s foreign teams are the same as women’s teams. Finals for both categories will start at 15:30. Fireworks 20:30 - 21:00
