Roger Wagner Chorale

Date Posted: 2000-09-22

A world renowned Roger Wagner Chorale that has performed in concerts the world over is scheduled to come to Okinawa. The choir has been singing in the heartland of America and has also been very popular in Japan for a long time. The Roger Wagner Chorale started as a choir group at Saint Joseph Church in Los Angeles in 1946. They became internationally popular almost instantly. In 1953, they performed in front of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd. They visited Okinawa in 1965 for the first time, and have had 12 concerts in Okinawa so far. The very flexible choir can express sadness or joy beautifully depending on the song. Their warm harmony and flexible expression of emotion is the result of the late Roger Wagnerís thorough training methods.

Roger Wagner loved Japan and accordingly, the choir had many Japanese songs in its repertoire. He invited young Japanese musicians and taught them music in his inimitable way. The choirís repertoire includes Fosterís Christian songs, gospels, musicals, movie songs, and songs from many countries including Japan and U.S. The daughter of Roger Wagner, Jeannine Wagner has been the conductor of the choir to carry on her fatherís will. There will be a Cultural Exchange Hour after the performance at Sugar Hall. During the Cultural Exchange Hour, Okinawan songs are included in the program.
