American Drowned Watching Typhoon Waves

Date Posted: 2000-09-22

High waves caused by Typhoon Seimay swept an American Marine, Lance Corporal Charlie C. Meador, out to the sea off Camp Schwab. Meador and another service member had gone to the beach to watch waves on Tuesday last week when an exceptionally high wave swept them into the sea. Meadorís friend managed to struggle back to the beach but he was swept out to sea.

His body was later found washed onto Oura Wan beach. He was taken to Camp Schwab battalion aid station where he was pronounced dead at 9:22 pm. Meador of Beckley West Virginia was assigned to Motor Transport section, 4th Marine Regiment. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca and their son.
