Typhoon Devastates Sugar Cane, Fruit, Flowers

The damage cause by Typhoon Saomai to agriculture in the prefecture totals ¥390 million or about $3.7 million, according to Okinawa Prefecture Agriculture and Fisheries Department. Sugar cane, the staple crop in the prefecture sustained the most damage, followed by vegetables and fruit. In addition, excessive rainfall also has almost but destroyed this year’s chrysanthemum crop.
