Ideas brainstormed for Okinawan conference

Date Posted: 2000-09-22

Although the event is still one year away, organizers of the World Okinawan People’s (Uchinanchu) Conference held a public meeting trying to come up with new ideas for the events that are to be held during the conference. Many organizers expressed the opinion that many events the prefecture and municipalities on the island are organizing are too similar.

Some participants also complained that the events are too far away from outer islands such as Miyako and Ishigaki, and suggested that some of the events to be moved there. One suggestion was that opening ceremonies should be held at several locations simultaneously. Another question was whether the know-how the prefecture official had acquired from organizing the G-8 Summit could be put in effective use during the conference.
