11 Students Start Year of Special Studies in Kudaka

Date Posted: 2001-04-14

The first students taking part in a special study program entered into Kudaka elementary and junior high school on Saturday for a year of study in Kudaka Island. This program is organized by Kudaka Study-away Center that was established recently on purpose of giving children an opportunity to improve themselves and to be independent in rich natural environment.

A total of eleven junior high students joined the program for this very first year. Most of them are from other prefectures. The school officials worried that the new program would attract only one or two students for its first year, but the program attracted six times more students than they expected. The program covers canoeing, fishing, Sanshin playing (Okinawan three stringed instrument), and farming.
