Now that the typhoon is long gone, hear this. There's a party coming up tonight at club Bump at Kokusai Street in Naha City. The event is called "Excellent!!" and the special theme is "The Party for Gays." However, despite the theme, the owner says that everybody is welcome no matter gay or straight. He promises that everybody will enjoy this party. "We will play house music all night long by well-known DJ-duo, DJ S-MIX and DJ GEMBU," The dress code at the party is white and those wearing "drag queen" costume get in free. The party takes place Sep. 14, starting at 10 p.m. Tickets cost ¥2,000 and include one drink. For more information, call Bump at 867-7578.

There is a gay support group in Okinawa. The club’s organizer Kim, says 'We support gays no matter what nationality they are, and make a chance to get everybody together to find new friendships.' The phone number is 090-9487-3303 for more information.

Another event will also take place tonight. The free tattoo event that was planned at Gourmet Town for last Friday was postponed to tonight, Sep 14, because of typhoon Bopha. This is a chance for anyone wishing to add a touch or two on their body for free. The event offers all you can drink beer, cocktails and soft drinks from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. for the cost of ¥2,000 for women and ¥2,500 for men. For more info, call Gourmet Town at 936-9306. The place is outdoors so make sure to call them if it’s raining again on the day. The drawing starts at 5 p.m. to decide who are lucky ones to get free tattoos.

On the club scene this weekend, the Hip Hop House Party will be hold at Pulse, on Gate 2 Street on Sat., Sep 16. DJ Tre' & DJ Jammin' Jay play R&B and Hip Hop all night long, starting 9 p.m. and all the way to 5 a.m.

Also I want to give a quick reminder to big fans of R&B and especially those of the old school about the show by De La Soul and Biz Markie's Okinawan Tour at Legion Club on Sep 30. The tickets are already on sale at Hit Travel outside KAB Gate 2, BBQ Restaurant Sauce in Chatan, Sam Goody's in Plaza House, Legion Club and MCCS. Tickets sell for ¥3,500. And in case you are wondering whether you’ll get your money’s worth at the show? Well, according to Max Kapa Promoter Tim, “This is not going to be the one show that disappoints you, guaranteed.” He says that the groups will play for full two and half hours and guarantee the fans get worth of their money. But tickets are going in a hurry!

I guess everyone will be busy this weekend taking care the possible house damage caused by the Big Typhoon. But I want to suggest to join the big Beach Clean Up planned for this weekend. It’s not only for divers, surfers and snorkelers but everybody who love the ocean and appreciate our relationship with the wonderful nature. This Sunday, Sep. 17 the cleanups by the Okinawa International Clean Beach Clean Club begin. The cleanups run through the end of October, and organizers rely on volunteers’ help to clear the coastline of marine debris. The cleanup this weekend is held at Sunabe Seawall starting 9:30 a.m., both on the coast and underwater. The event is sponsored by PADI Japan, and MCCS (Tsunami Gear) who have donated underwater treasure hunt and door prizes. Other locations of the cleanups are Maeda Point (divers welcome), Tancha Beach in Onna Village, Usa Beach by the Zampa Mizaki Hotel and Senaga Beach in Tomigusuku.

During the cleanups, the trash is sorted into five categories: glass, aluminum, steel, plastic bottles and burnable. Data cards are available to tally amounts and types of trash washing up on Okinawa's beaches. For more information, leave message at 098-965-5371, 0901-940-2734.
