Girl Kicked by Teacher Ends in Hospital

Date Posted: 2000-09-15

A male teacher at Oroku High School is suspected of kicking a female student in the back causing an injury requiring a five-day stay in a hospital. According to a Tomishiro police investigation, two second-grade girls at the school had been cleaning their brass band instruments, sitting on the stairs, when the teacher approached them on his way to a classroom. He scolded the two, when passing, for blocking the stairs.

When he returned some 10 minutes later, the girls were still in the same place. This time he told them to move somewhere else, but the girls ignored him. He then proceeded to tell them that he would literally kick their butts out of there. When the girls continued to ignore him, he began kicking. Later one girl went to hospital complaining pain, and she was diagnosed with having sustained severe laceration. Afterwards the girl’s parents complained to the school principal, who notified the police and the local board of education. The teacher has publicly apologized and said that he simply lost his temper. The board of education will rule on the 19th on a possible administrative punishment for the teacher, who has no previous record of violence.
