Love Fest poetry winner announced

Date Posted: 2002-02-21

The Kadena Services Squadron and Wave 89.1 FM recently announced the winner of the Love Fest Valentine Poetry Contest live on an afternoon radio show. Contestants were asked to write a Valentine poem that included five words from a list posted on the 18th Services Web site. Entries were judged on word content, application, creativity and artistic appeal. This year’s winner was Michael Brown. His poem, “A Million Thoughts of You,” was written for his wife and submitted through the 18services.com Web site poetry contest link. As first prize, he won a trip for two to Okuma Resort with a romantic dinner at the Surfside Restaurant. Brown is from the III MEF, Okinawa, and is currently serving at Camp Doha, Kuwait, for Operation Enduring Freedom.

"A Million Thoughts of You"

Twilight falls on desert skies,
much later than back home.
Can time be different miles away,
or is the heartbeat slowed?
A million times I think of you
and how my life is blessed.
Pictures of the kids are glued
about the coffee mess.
I dream your smile a million times
in the passing of a minute.
I'd trade a million of these days
for one day with you in it.
If not another Valentine Day
is spent held in your arms,
I've won at love’s game anyway
for having known your charms.
