Manager Facing Criminal Charges

A manager of a Mah Jong club in Nago city is facing a criminal court after he was found to have in his possession a í38 caliber pistol and 38 rounds of ammunition. Police found the gun and ammunition hidden underground on his yard in a plastic bag after a tip from a neighbor who had seen him bury the bag. Police is trying to determine how the man acquired the firearm and ammunition that they say is of American origin. The man was arrested Aug. 15 and remains in the police custody. It is a grave criminal offense in Japan for a private citizen to own a gun or ammunition punishable under the nationís swords and firearms control laws.
