Three unexploded bombs left at prefectural offices

Date Posted: 2002-02-21

Prefectural officials on Feb. 15 brought three unexploded bombs into the prefectural offices from the water off Senaga Island near Naha Airport. Although the Japanese Self-Defense Force’s bomb disposal squad was able to remove two of the explosive devices from the office on Feb. 16, the remaining bomb, still equipped with a fuse, is to be taken away on Feb. 24. The officials reportedly found the bombs on the bottom of the sea while conducting fishing research, collecting them with a bear hand and removing them at a fisherman’s request. After disembarkation from their boat, they rolled the bombs in towels and brought them back to the office, when the Naha Police were notified.
