Ryukyu Symphony Orhestra wants to Turn Pro

The Ryukyu Symphony Orchestra that is anticipating becoming professional in the near future, held its inaugural concert Friday night at Okinawa Convention Center. Many fans of classical music attended the event, and the performance of the first-ever real local orchestra here amazed them all.

There are about ten original members in the orchestra at the moment. The orchestra leaders plan to find a total of 70 to 80 members through auditions in the near future. The orchestra plans to turn pro in five years. Many players from Tokyo or Osaka joined the orchestra to help with this very first concert.

The permanent conductor of the orchestra is Naoto Ohtomo who is quite well-known both domestically and internationally.
