US Juvenile Returns to Okinawa for Arrest

Date Posted: 2001-04-06

An 19-year old American juvenile, who is under suspicion of stealing a car in Yomitan last December, and crashing it into a clothes store in Nago City, was arrested on Saturday afternoon after he returned from the U.S. voluntarily to face charges of car theft and vandalism.

The teen has admitted all the charges including the incident that he set fire on a car last January in Okinawa-city with an American student who has already been arrested. The student, 19, and another 17-year old are in the custody of the Naha Juvenile Detention Center waiting for a Family Court decision on how the cases against them should proceed.

The suspected juvenile was persuaded by his parents to come back and he arrived at Kadena AB Saturday on a military charter flight. He was arrested after he voluntary appeared at the Kadena Town Police Station. Okinawa Police had been asking cooperation of his parents who are living here and an investigating agency in the U.S.
