Naha Hotelier, Landlord Settle Rent Dispute

Date Posted: 2001-04-06

A 3rd sector real estate operator "Tomarin" and Kariyushi Urban Resort hotel in Naha City have agreed to a court-mediated rental price for the facility of 6,250 per 3.3 square meters (tsubo) a month, March 29 at the Naha Summary Court.

The sides have been at odds over the rent and had been fighting their case in the court. Originally, when "Tomarin" opened in '95, the sides had agreed on a rate of 7,500 per tsubo. On the request of the hotel, "Tomarin" reduced the rent to 5,000 per tsubo. "Tomarin" asked the hotel to raise the rent back to 7,500 after 1998, but the hotel did not accept. Instead, the hotel asked for arbitration by the court last May.
