Oho Dam construction Signed to Start

Date Posted: 2001-04-06

Both national and prefectural governments and Ogimi village signed up a memorandum on Wednesday 28 in the village to start the construction of main part of “Oho Dam”. The national government started planning this project back in ’71 and now after 30 years all the conditions for the construction are set.

Oho Dam will be a multi-purpose water reservoir to be used for flood control and securing the water supply. It will be constructed on a site along Oho River, 2.9 km upstream from Shioya bay. The total volume of reservoir water will be 20 million cubic meters, which makes it the second largest after Fukuchi Dam. The ground breaking at the construction site will take place within next year and the dam will be completed in 2010.
