Snow Brand admits 80 percent of imported SanA beef mislabeled

Date Posted: 2002-02-21

Directors of Snow Brand Food on Feb. 15 visited supermarket chain San-A to present the results of a company investigation into employee misconduct in a case of mislabeled beef sold at SanA stores. The directors said that of the total amount of beef brought into Okinawa, approximately 80 percent, or 35 tons, was mislabeled as Japanese beef instead of Australian. San-A is having two employees involved with the mislabeling prosecuted under the law, accusing them of fraud. The directors then called on Governor Keiichi Inamine at the prefectural offices to offer an apology for the scandal.
