Princess Tenko Performs Her Tricks Saturday

A legendary name in Japanese magic circles is Hikida Tenko. His sorcerer’s apprentice, formerly the singer Marie Akase, started learning tricks from him in 1976. The following year she made her debut in the “Cable Escape In The Air” show. In 1980 she adopted the name Princess Tenko and 20 years on stages 300 magic shows worldwide.

Ten years after taking the mantle of the master she won the Magician of the Year prize from the Magic Arts Academy in the USA . Other Academy Award winners have been American David Copperfield and British magician Paul Daniels. Also in 1990 she received the International Festival Escape Artists award. In 1994 the Princess performed at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

She stages her Legend of Tenko show twice this Saturday (August 26) at the Okinawa Convention Center. Doors open at 2.30 pm for the 3.00 show and at 6.00 pm for the 6.30 show. Tickets are ¥5000, ¥4000 and ¥3000 and are available from Okinawa Television Office (098-869-4415) or PM Agents (098-898-1331).
