Kina asks Indian ministerís help in abolishing nuclear weapons

Well-known Okinawan musician Shokichi Kina visited with Indian Minister of Defense George Fernandes on Feb. 12 while attending a concert held to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India. Kina brought letters to the minister from the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as well as from Diet member Masahide Ota of Okinawa calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons. Kina also asked for Fernandesí cooperation in conducting peace talks with Pakistan and providing arms for a peace monument Kina is creating out of melted weapons. The minister replied that India would never carry out a preemptive strike against a country that does not possess nuclear weapons.
