Ginoza School Baseball Team Plays in Kobe

Date Posted: 2001-03-30

Ginoza High School are basking in the honor of being chosen to play baseball in Koushien Stadium, Kobe, against high schools from all over Japan.

The 73rd Invitational High School Baseball Tournament, which started on Sunday, has 34 participating high school teams.

For Ginoza High School to be chosen as the Okinawan team in the competition, held at the prestigious stadium, is considered a great accolade.

The Ginoza baseball players, unused to Kobe’s cold weather, have been taking extra precautions to avoid catching cold. They all had influenza vaccinations before they went to Kobe and they have been told to wash their hands often. Masashi Okuhama, the Ginoza High School Baseball Team coach is suspicious of indoor heaters, which he thinks may cause sore throats. So the team have not been using heaters in the rooms they are staying at in Kobe, but have been wrapping up warm instead.
