Serial arson suspected in four early-morning blazes

A suspected case of serial arson occurred in the early morning hours of Feb. 13 in Okinawa City in which portions of houses were burnt. There were no reported injuries. According to the police investigation, four cases within a radius of five hundred meters of each other were reported. The first incident occurred when a resident discovered a blaze consuming clothes that were hanging outside at around 3:00 a.m. in Misato. Then at around 5:30 a.m. a fire broke out in a Miyazato garage, which was completely burnt down. Fifteen minutes later in Misato a burning bicycle tire tube was placed near the back window of a parked car, scorching the vehicle. Finally, a mop leaning on a shed in Teruya was set on fire at approximately 7:30 a.m., resulting in the destruction of a section of one wall. The police found no indication that the fires had started by accident in any of the locations.
