27 Students Kept Away from Graduation

Date Posted: 2001-03-23

Nakanishi junior high school held its graduation ceremony on Sunday without 27 students who had been asked to stay away because of their record of bad behavior. A total of 375 students were due to graduate at the ceremony, which the principal feared might be disrupted if the 27 attended.

In order to prevent this, teachers and about 100 parents kept watch around the school premises at the time of the ceremony. All three gates were shut and cars patrolled around the school to make sure the event went as planned.

One of the students who had been banned from the graduation turned up at the school but was refused permission to enter. Some of the banned group watched developments from their parents` cars but most stayed home.

After the ceremony Nakanishi’s principal said the decision to exclude the group had been taken because the students had refused all attempts at guidance. The 27 excluded students will receive their graduation certificates later this month.
