Propaganda Van Forces Way into Kadena

Date Posted: 2001-03-23

A right wing propaganda van forced its way onto Kadena Air Base on Tuesday afternoon, was chased and those inside arrested.

The van, belonging to the right wing party “Seikijuku”, based in Nagasaki Prefecture, stopped when challenged at the gates by security guards but then drove off into the base. It was pursued by Military Police who forced it to stop after it had driven for about 4.5 km.

The four occupants of the van were handed over to Okinawa City police, who arrested them on suspicion of trespass.

Vans and trucks belonging to right wing organizations specialize in roaming the cities of Japan, making their political views known through large loudspeakers at high volume. They are known for intimidating opponents, sometimes violently.
