Summit Billions Written OffDate Posted: 2000-07-31 Now that the summit is over the companies have come to the conclusion that there is no need to maintain the link and are preparing to dismantle it. The link was needed for telecommunications needs of the international media during the Summit, but the involved companies say that it is too costly to maintain. Critics of the Summit point out that this is only one example of the excesses Japan went into hosting the meeting. They point out that the total cost of last year’s G-8 Summit in Cologne, Germany, was only ¥700 million. The state-of-the-art media center that Japan constructed in Nago for the Summit at a cost of ¥2.6 billion is also scheduled for immediate demolition. |
