Futenma Move Research: 6 Dugongs Found

The results of research into what harm would be done to dugongs by moving the Futenma air facility to the Camp Schwab area were reported on Tuesday. The information, which will not be welcomed by US military planners, was that 5 dugongs were found on the east coast of Okinawa and one dugong on the west coast.

The data was released at the 6th Substitute Military Facility Conference, held at the official residence of Japanese Prime Minister Mori in Tokyo. At the meeting were Foreign Minister, Yohei Kono and Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine.

The research was done by the Japanese Defense Agency all over Okinawa Prefecture from October 30 to January 9 last year.
