Marine Corps Postal Service Strives for ExcellenceDate Posted: 2001-03-02 To the author of the aforementioned letter, I would like to point out a few facts and tips for you. Fact 1: I don’t know where you were on Saturday December 23, 2000, but I was at the Foster Post Office picking up some of my late arriving packages. The Foster Post Office was indeed closed on the 24th, 25th and 26th. Please let me remind you, the 24th was a Sunday, (hours designated for closure) and the 25th was a Federal holiday. As for the 26th of December, Merry Christmas to all!! Fact 2: Please note there are many disparities amongst the services, with postal hours just being one to name. These disparities are normally caused by lack of resources, being either budgetary or manpower. Comparisons cannot be made from one service to another. But then again we could compare Kadena Air Bases postal services of one base, one post office, to the Marine Corps seven Camps, seven geographical sites. Fact 3: With any patron service organization, you can’t please all the people all of the time. But once again I would have to say our Postal Service strives for excellence. Tip 1: I would suggest instead of airing your concerns/complaints to a forum that cannot assist you with changes, that you make contact through channels that can make policy changes, improvements, etc. The Marine Corps Post Offices have Consumer Service Cards at each window to voice your concerns and I’m sure the Postal Officer would be more than happy to listen to your complaints, suggestions, etc. But please remember, change cannot always occur quickly and sometimes not at all due to constraints. Tip 2: Since you have lived here for numerous years, it should be obvious to you by now that the Christmas season is Postal’s heaviest season of the year for mail flow. Whether their doors are open or not there are no assurances that the special package you are waiting for will arrive on time, unless of course you use good time management skills and order early! Furthermore, I would challenge the author to take a day or two out of their Me, Me,/I Want World and step into the shoes of a postal worker to see what really goes on behind the scenes. (This would be called becoming a Volunteer). What has happened to human kindness, helping your fellow man, appreciating privileges that have been bestowed upon us and lastly the true spirit of Christmas? In conclusion, I would just like to say sometimes Beauty Lies In The Eye Of The Beholder. I personally thank the Marines who work six days a week, 10 to 12 hour shifts a day, to ensure my privileges of getting professional mail service is met. As for Dec 24, 25, 26 of 2001, Have a Very Merry Christmas Postal and a Happy New Year. |
