Military Shells found in Residential Area

Last week American World War II era shells were found by a construction worker at a building site in Makishi, Naha city. The construction worker called the police. The Ordnance Removal Unit of the Japanese Army Self Defense Force went to the scene and found some 60 shells buried in less than 50 cm underground. Although the shells were deemed not to be dangerous, the unit disposed of them. There is a residential area nearby and the site is close to the entrance of Midorigaoka park. On the same day, one shell was found on Tsuken island and another on Furu island.
