How Much Does an Okinawan Earn?

The average yearly personal income in each of Japan痴 prefectures for 1998 was announced by the Cabinet on Tuesday. The average over the whole country was ・3,104,000, 2.9 % lower than 1997. The country痴 highest earners were unsurprisingly in Tokyo, averaging ・4,230,000, 2.4% less than the previous year.

Lowest personal income was in Okinawa Prefecture, at ・2,183,000 or 0.7 % more than 1997 because of growing tourism and financial support from Japanese government. The average income of Tokyo residents was 1.94 times more than Okinawans・ In 1997 Tokyoites earned twice as much as Okinawans. The biggest drop in earnings from 1997 to 1998 was in Shiga prefecture, a 7.2% decrease because of depressed manufacturing and construction.
