Bike Crash Boy Innocent Says Father

Date Posted: 2000-07-14

The father of a 19-year old young man who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1993 is requesting that the police open a new investigation into the accident.

At the time, the police investigation concluded that the boy had lost control of his motorcycle due to excessive speed and fatally crashed into a utility pole. The father now claims that the police did not conduct a thorough investigation and failed to look for possible eyewitnesses to the accident. He claims to have found through his own investigation a witness who says that the accident was caused by a car that turned to the right in front of the approaching motorcycle. The witness claims that he heard the motorcycle crash into the car.

The car stopped at the scene, and the ambulance crew who arrived at the scene wrote in its report that the motorcycle had crashed into the car. However, the police report mentioned nothing about the crash and concluded that the motorcycle had first hit the divider and that caused the driver to lose control and crash. The father took the driver of the car to court in 1996, and then appealed to the higher court when the lower court ruled against him. He also lost the appeal.
