Five Ton Canadian Friendship Stone

A commemorative stone was delivered to Haebaru Town yesterday. The granite stone weighing five tons is a present from the Candian Government as a symbol of friendship between Canada and Okinawa.

The stone will be placed in front of Haebaru Town Office. The unveiling ceremony is scheduled to take place July 21. Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien will attend the ceremony. Chretien who will attend the G-8 Summit at the time will give a speech at the ceremony. A bronze plate stating a message of friendship in three languages, Japanese, English and French will be attached to the stone.

Haebaru is the official host municipality to the Canadian delegation to the Summit.
