Politicians Disclose Earnings

Okinawan politicians holding office published their annual earnings and property holdings as required the law, yesterday. According to the statement published by Governor Keiichi Inamine, he earned a ¥20.9 million salary from his governor’s job last year and an additional ¥3.57 million in retirement pay and other income. The governor is a retired executive of Ryukyu Oil Co. He also lists ¥9.98 million worth of shares of the Bank of the Ryukyus.

Seiji Nakamura, a liberal democrat member of diet is the wealthiest politician in Okinawa. He listed ¥61.49 million in income. The fortunes of the Okinawan politicians however pale when compared to the fortunes of the wealthiest members sitting in the national parliament. Libral Democrat Akira Sasagawa is the wealthiest among his peers, having a fortune of more than ¥2 billion.
