Omi in US to discuss grad school, bases

The minister in charge of Okinawan affairs, Koji Omi left on a one-week trip to the United States and the United Kingdom on Saturday. Omi plans to visit educational institutions in preparation for the establishment of a graduate school in Okinawa. The minister will speak with some professors whom he wants to eventually invite to the proposed graduate school. Omi had previously expressed the idea of inviting Nobel Prize winners to the institution as well. Omi is also scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to discuss issues concerning U.S. military bases on Okinawa.
