The Day Cats are Honored in Japan

Catís Day on Feb 22 is not a well-known in Okinawa. But it has been celebrated since 1987, sponsored by the Japanese Pet Food Industry Association. Cat owners cannot enter their animals in competitions here, as they can on the mainland. But the day is at least being marked by one local purveyor of feline accessories. Pet Box in Chatan Town has a sale until Feb 25, offering 15 percent off cat food and cat litter.
