Okinawa Marathon Attracts Thousands

A sunny 9th Okinawa Marathon was run on Sunday. Starting in Okinawa Prefecture Comprehensive Park at 9 am, it attracted 9,415 people to run in the race and other activities.

Sixty nine percent of entrants ran the whole distance of 42.195 km. Twenty six year old Hideto Yamashita from mainland Japan won the marathon in two hours 22 minutes 32 seconds. In second place was Hisashi Ameku from Nishihara town, Okinawa, finishing in two hours 27 minutes 53 seconds. Mayumi Otaguro won in her female runners’ category.

Weather was sunny during the event and the temperature was 18 degrees Celsius. Humidity was recorded at 71 percent.
