If Marine Corps Can’t, Let Others Run Post Office

Date Posted: 2001-02-09

I have watched the services at the Camp Foster Post Office go from bad to worse over the numerous years I have been on island. The normal hours do not serve the customers’ needs, and even with numerous complaints, there is no improvement in sight. This past Christmas season our fine postal service went that extra mile to make sure that everyone got their holiday packages. NOT!!!!! They closed their doors from the 23rd through the 26th!! I can understand limited hours on Christmas Eve, but to close on the 23rd, and then again on the 26th is just plain irresponsible!!!

And after being closed they had the gall to send out the following message after they reopened:

“The Marine Corps Postal Systemrequests that all patrons check their PSC boxes TODAY!!!!Due to Santa being late to Okinawa, they are running out of storage space! Please visit your serving Post Office ASAP!”

Well, maybe if they would have been open during normal postal hours, they would not have this problem, and their customers would have been served in the manner that they should be accustomed to.

If the Marine Corps does not wish to run the Post Office on Foster the way it should be run, then let civilians do it! I am sure that they would not have a problem working on the 23rd, the 24th or the 26th. To my knowledge these were normal working days for Post Offices everywhere.

Oh, yes!!!! Did I fail to mention that Kadena was open from 0900-1700 on the 23rd, 0900-1800 on the 24th (Christmas Eve!!!), and also from 0900-1800 on the 26th.

Wait a minute!!!! Lets just let the Air Force take over Fosters Post Office!!!!
