Drunk police officer killed while sleeping on street

An off duty police officer sleeping on a street in Naha City’s Matsuyama entertainment district was killed when he was run over by a taxi Saturday. Naha Police say Tsutomu Toyama, 36, a Naha policeman, had gone to a friend’s wedding party. After the party he had gone to barhopping and eventually passed out on the street. Investigators continue their investigation into how Toyama ended up sleeping in the street.

The taxi driver told police that he had not noticed the man lying on the street until he felt the car running over something and went to investigate. To his horror, he then discovered that he had run over a man. Toyama was taken to a hospital, where he died of massive internal damages without gaining consciousness.
