Okinawan Economy Stays in Slow Lane

Ryukyu Bank Research Department on Tuesday announced the results of its analysis of Okinawa’s economy in December 2000.

In the category of consumer goods, sales of clothes went down because of the warm winter. However, numbers of cars bought went up, a trend that has been continuing for five months in a row. In the construction market, the number of houses for rent increased for two months in a row. Tourism figures were on the rise for four months in a row. Compared to the last year, the proportion of rooms booked increased in the main hotels in Okinawa.

However, as a whole, the economy of Okinawa remains sluggish.
