Pair Forgiven Vandalism at New Adults Event

Date Posted: 2001-01-19

After rowdy events at Naha’s coming of age ceremony last week, apologies have been accepted by the city’s mayor, who has agreed not to press charges against the miscreants. During the ceremony at the Naha City Gym, attended by about 70 men, the venue’s gate was broken.

On Tuesday two of the men showed up at Naha City Office and admitted that they had broken the gate. They also brought a letter of apology to the city office on behalf of the rest of the men in the group. In the letter, there were apologetic words from ten of the men who had attended the ceremony.

The newly elected mayor of Naha city, Takeshi Onaga, accepted their apology and officially announced that he is not going to charge the two young men with any offense.

Disruptive behavior at coming of age ceremonies has recently been reported from many areas around the country.
