Midnight Curfew Ends, Patrols Go Out Later

Date Posted: 2001-01-12

The midnight to 5 am ban on the US military using off-base clubs bars and hotels that serve alcohol, was lifted last Friday. The ending of the curfew, which had been in place since last August, following some alcohol related incidents involving the military, was announced by Lieutenant General Earl Hailston. It followed a decision by the Commander of US Forces Japan, Lieutenant General Paul Hester, to revoke the restriction.

It was also decided to change the hours of the three man patrols, which do the rounds of various nightclub areas on Fridays and Saturdays. They have now been authorized to go out later, midnight to 3 am instead of 10 pm to midnight.
