Solar Powered HQ for Itoman City

Itoman City is building a new 5 billion solar powered headquarters which will be the biggest of its kind of any local government offices in Japan. The building, which began construction last October, will have 2,500 solar panels on its roof and south facing outer wall

The solar powered building, which will be able to produce a total of 195 kilowatts, will save City Hall an estimated 20 % in electricity bills, according to the Solar Energy Association in Tokyo.

When the building is finished in spring 2002, it will be fronted by a display showing the amount of energy produced by the solar power system, minute by minute.
