New Internet Service for Phone Users

Date Posted: 2000-06-23

Good news is in the offing for Internet users as two local Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation firms announced Thursday that they will begin a flat-rate Internet connection service for ISDN subscribers starting July 17.

The service will offer unlimited line connection time to Internet service providers at flat rate of 4,500 per month. Subscribers still need to pay their Internet service provider charges separately. Home users must also pay the basic rate for the use of an ISDN line, currently 2,830 per month.

By August 7 the service will be offered to most of the Tokyo and Osaka areas, and other major cities in Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Miyagi, Hokkaido, Shizuoka, Aichi, Ishikawa, Kyoto, Hyogo, Okayama, Hiroshima, Ehime, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Kagoshima and Okinawa prefectures. The telephone companies hope to sign contracts with about two million ISDN subscribers in one year.
