16 Year Old Extortion Suspect Arrested

Date Posted: 2000-06-23

Ginowan Police arrested a 16-year old boy on suspicion of extorting 184,000 in cash from three classmates while he was still in junior high school last year. According to Ginowan Police investigation, the youth first called one of his classmates and threatened to beat him up unless the boy bought him 184,000 in cash.

The frightened youth complied. The bully next contacted another classmate and accused him of telling others about his extortion. He then threatened to beat him up as a punishment unless he produced 80,000. He then called a third classmate with similar threats. All in all, the boy is suspected of extorting about 1,300,000 from his classmates.

The schoolboys reportedly stole the money from their parents and sold their game machines and software in order to get the money. The school first began an investigation when a teacher noticed that a group of boys had formed around the bully spending a lot of time in game arcades. When the extortion came to light, the principal of the school contacted the police. "It was the most difficult decision in my life," the principal said when talking about the case to the local media.
