Himeyuri Peace Museum honors 10 millionth visitor

Date Posted: 2002-02-15

The number of visitors to the Himeyuri Peace Museum at the Himeyuri Peace Memorial Park in Itoman City has topped 10 million since opening in 1989. The museum presented the 10 millionth visitor with souvenirs, books and videos. Lucky winner 30-year-old Jin Nishikawa of Nagasaki Prefecture was surprised at first but soon showed her pleasure at the honor. One of the founders of the museum, Kikuko Miyagi, a survivor of the Himeyuri Nursing Corps, was gratified by the 10-million record and said that they wanted to work hard to continue providing a venue for peace education by training the successors of the war survivors and witnesses, who are now approaching old age.
