Teacher Beats Up Student

A 29-year old physical education teacher in Minatogawa Middle School beat up a second grade student during basketball training. The student lost three teeth as a result of the beating and was taken to a hospital. His injuries require about two week’s stay in the hospital.

The teacher is a coach of the school’s volleyball team and got angry when a group of students practiced basketball on a court adjacent to the volleyball court. He ordered the basketball players to move further away. According to the teacher one of the basketball players made a face and he lost his temper.

Urasoe City Board of Education is investigating the incident and is reportedly considering punishing the teacher. The principal of the school visited the student’s home to offer an apology to the parents. He also visited the student in the hospital.
