Ginowan To Get Huge New Store

Date Posted: 2000-06-10

Daiei Group, a department and convenience store operator announced yesterday a plan to construct a huge convenience store center in Oyama, Ginowan City. The new center will eventually employ 400 people.

In addition, the group plans to construct another department store and possibly a hotel in Ginowan City West Coast Seawall area.

Daiei officials say that when completed the new convenience center will house convenience stores, restaurants, amusement centers and specialty stores. They say that they decided to locate the facilities in Ginowan City because of the expected strong growth in the local population and easy access from other parts of the Island.

The company angered Naha City officials when they cancelled their plans to build a department store and a hotel in Ameku, Naha City, the former site of a U.S. Makiminato Housing Area, now under construction. Jusco Co., another large retail operator will construct a department store there instead.
