Vandals Cut Off Cop Figure’s Head

Date Posted: 2000-06-02

Someone obviously do not believe that the life-size figurines seen at many places along the prefecture roadsides, depict police officers.

The figurines are placed at strategic locations in order to alert drowsy or otherwise inattentive drivers. The head of a police figure standing along Highway 10 in Katsuren was found cut off Tuesday.

The figures are public property and the police are investigating the incident as vandalism.

Charges of endangering the public can also be brought against the culprit if found. If he (or she) is found, it may be safe to say, the mutual feelings between the culprit and the police will be somewhat frosty. Pictures of Politicians Cost ¥10 million

Official billboards for displaying the posters of the candidates for the upcoming parliamentary and local elections, are going up around the prefecture. In Naha City alone, 370 such billboards are going up at a cost of ¥10 million. Throughout the prefecture, the billboards are being erected in 2,360 locations.

The Prefectural assembly election is scheduled for June 11 and the national parliamentary elections on July 25.

It is illegal for the candidates to display their posters at any other places except on the official billboards. It is also illegal for anyone to tamper with the posters posted on the official boards, no matter how an individual may feel about local politicians.
