Texas Two to Help Amerasian School ?

Date Posted: 2000-06-02

Two members of Texas State Legistlature are visiting Okinawa’s Amerasian school on a fact-finding mission. Patricia E. Appy and Gary Caswell are coming to see whether the institution would qualify for financial assistance from the state of Texas.

They say Texas has official agreements with six countries concerning the welfare of children born to American servicemen and foreign women. But Japan has so far declined to sign such an agreement.

The lawmakers say they are planning to visit Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine and the U.S. ambassador Thomas Foley to discuss the matter before returning to the United States.
