Unstrapped Car Kids Now Illegal

Date Posted: 2000-06-02

The use of child safety seats in cars became mandatory from April 1. But according to a survey conducted by Naha City Police, only 42 percent of cars with young children onboard use the devices.

The reason most offenders gave for not strapping their children in safety seats, was that the babies didnít like it and cried. Many also said that they considered the children to be safe as long as they stayed on the back seat.

For the time of being, the police are only giving warnings to offenders, but plan to start ticketing them in a few monthsí time.
